WTA: Gstaad: Eugenie Bouchard must give up – Mandy Minella fights for title

Eugenie Bouchard was injured in her semi-final match in Gstaad against Alize Cornet. In the final Cornet fights surprisingly against Mandy Minella for the title.

Things are slowly starting to look up again for the Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. After another failed first half, the 24-year-old celebrates further successes.

After the successful Wimbledon qualification plus first-round victory, the semi-finals now took place in Gstaad. This went anything but according to plan for the part-time model. Against Alize Cornet, the ex-number-five had to give up in the second set.

Bouchard gave up the first round 6:7 (5), only to strike the sails in set two at a score of 0:1. The right thigh seemed to cause “genius” problems. Cornet has the chance to win their first title of the season.

Cornet will face surprise finalist Mandy Minella in the final. The Luxembourg player defeated Marketa Vondrousova in the semi-finals, who is 122 places higher in the ranking.

The 4:6, 6:2 and 6:2 success makes Minella dream of the first title of her career – at the age of 32.
