ATP/WTA: Rankings: Djokovic rushes past Thiem, Görges with career high

Novak Djokovic has made up four places in the current world ranking thanks to his tournament victory at the ATP Masters in Cincinnati and is back in sixth place.

Rafael Nadal (10,040 points) continues to be the undisputed leader, but Roger Federer has narrowed the gap a little (7,080) thanks to his Cincinnati final.

Furthermore follow in the Top Ten: Juan Martin del Potro (5,500 points), Alexander Zverev (4,845), Kevin Anderson (4,615), Djokovic (4,445), Marin Cilic (4,445), Grigor Dimitrov (3,790), last year’s winner, Dominic Thiem (3,485) and David Goffin (3,435). In the ATP Race to London Nadal, Federer and Djokovic are now in the lead, Thiem is eighth here.

Nick Kyrgios, finalist in “Cincy” in 2017, was knocked out of the top 20 of the regular ranking – for him it went from 18th to 30th place.

Philipp Kohlschreiber has made up two places (he is now listed at 33), followed by Peter Gojowczyk (45), Mischa Zverev (46), Maximilian Marterer (49) and Jan-Lennard Struff (52) among the Top 100.

Best Austrians after Thiem: Gerald Melzer on place 133 and Dennis Novak on 140.

Julia Görges achieved her highest ever position in the women’s singles with ninth place. The woman from Regensburg benefited from the slipping of last year’s winner in Cincinnati, Garbine Muguruza, who is now in twelfth place.

At the top is Simona Halep (8,061 points) – she can’t be ousted from the top even at the US Open. Follow it: Caroline Wozniacki (5,975), Sloane Stephens (5,482), Angelique Kerber (5,305), Petra Kvitova (4,840), Caroline Garcia (4,725), Elina Svitolina (4,555), Karolina Pliskova (4,105), Görges (3,815) and Jelena Ostapenko (3,787).

Cincinnati winner Kiki Bertens is also higher than ever before at 13th place, just like semi-finalist Aryna Sabalenka, who shot from 34th to 25th.

Other Germans in the top 100 are Tatjana Maria in 67th place (who made up 18 places thanks to qualifying and first-round victory in Cincinnati), Andrea Petkovic in 91 and Carina Witthöft in 99th place.

In Austria, Barbara Haas (245) and Julia Grabher (246) are the best.
