ATP: Stan Wawrinka fails in St. Petersburg due to Martin Klizan

Martin Klizan is the first finalist at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in St. Petersburg. The Slovakian defeated Stan Wawrinka in three sets.

Stan Wawrinkas run at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in St. Petersburg has come to its end in the semi-finals. The three-time major winner lost to Martin Klizan after a strong start with 6:4, 3:6 and 5:7.

Klizan presented a break twice in the decision, Wawrinka first made a comeback – and also made another chance at 5:6 – but after 2:17 hours Klizan made the victory clear.

The 29-year-old left-hander will play for his second title in 2018 on Sunday, after Klizan won the Generali Open in Kitzbühel in the summer. In the final, the winner of the match between Dominic Thiem and Roberto Bautista Agut will meet.
