ATP: Alexander Zverev in Beijing confident in the round of sixteen

Alexander Zverev has successfully started into the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Beijing. The German number one defeated Roberto Bautista-Agut in two sets.

Alexander Zverev was not able to stop a short concentration low in his opening match against Roberto Bautista-Agut at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Beijing. Zverev defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4 and 6-4 after a 91-minute play and is now in the round of 16.

Bautista-Agut took the first break chance of the match, but could not make use of it. Zverev made it better, set on serve of the Spaniard to 3:2. And had chances to move away to 5:2 – but helped his opponent with two double errors to comeback to 4:4 4.

Zverev, however, put the ball back on the table and used his superiority to the next break and served it after 44 minutes to 6:4.

Zverev also got off to a better start in run two in the last match of the day in Beijing, “RBA” dropped his first service game right away. And this time he continued to play concentrated, set with another break to 5:2. In the end too much for Bautista-Agut, even if the Spaniard managed a rebreak, even to zero.

Bautista Agut fended off his opponent’s first match point on his own serve with a stop, the second with a strong serve. Zverev had to take the match out. After 1:31 hours Zverev was congratulated on his progress on the net.

It was Zverev’s first appearance at a tournament significant for the world rankings since their defeat against Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third round of the US Open. Since then Zverev had only tried to secure victory for Team Europe at the Laver Cup in Chicago.

The second seeded Hamburg native will face Malek Jaziri from Tunisia in the round of 16. Brother Mischa had failed earlier on Tuesday because of Filip Krajinovic from Serbia.
