WTA: Julia Görges storms into quarter finals in Luxembourg

Tournament favourite Julia Görges has reached the quarter finals of the WTA tournament in Luxembourg without any problems. The German Fed Cup player defeated the Russian Anna Blinkova in two sets.

Impressive performance by Julia Görges in Luxembourg: After the German number two had already left nothing burning against Viktoria Kuzmova at the opening match, Görges defeated the Russian Anna Blinkova 6:1 and 6:4 in the round of sixteen. In the round of eight Görges meets Donna Vekic, who defeated Fiona Ferro in three sets.

Last week in Linz, Görges gave Andrea Petkovic a high lead and lost in three sets. Against Blinkova, too, the Regensburg player seemed to lose concentration in the end, but the outsider could not use a break chance to 3:4 in the second set. In the eighth game, Görges missed her first two match points, then had to give up her own serve once more. With a double error.

After 74 minutes of playing time, Görges made it to the quarter-finals with his next break.

From a German perspective, Andrea Petkovic is still represented in the tableau of the 250,000 Euro tournament. The girl from Darmstadt will play against Katerina Siniakova later on Wednesday. Eugenie Bouchard had a surprise: The Canadian qualifier pulled off Carla Suarez Navarro 6:1 and 6:0.

Belinda Bencic is also already in the quarter-finals. The Swiss won 6:1 and 6:3.
