In the hours following the announced resignation of Agnieszka Radwanska there were many homages to the former Wimbledon finalist from Poland.
Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki & Co. will have to do without the legendary birthday parties of Agnieszka Radwanska in the future. Every year the Polish woman, born on 6 March 1989, invited a few friends to a cosy party on the sidelines of the tournament in Indian Wells. For example, the Cheesecake Factory.
“Angie” and “Caro”, who have known “Aga” since their earliest youth, had once appeared at the celebration with a talking balloon that could say “Happy Birthday”. Together with Radwanskas sister Urszula the trio had once also spent holidays. Kerber and Wozniacki were also guests at the wedding of the former world rankings.
As a tribute to Radwanska, Wozniacki now made a collage with common youth pictures. “We’ll miss you, Aga,” said the Danish Australian Open winner.
Andy Murray also reacted to the resignation of the ball virtuoso (“Tennis Magician”) and wrote in the comment column of Radwansa’s Instagram account: “I loved watching you play.” The polite Brit wished his former colleague, who significantly won the WTA “Beat of the Year” rating five times in a row between 2013 and 2017, all the best for the future.
The 29-year-old Radwanska, known for her golden hand in stops and praise, has won 20 WTA Tour titles in her 13-year professional career, including the WTA Final in Singapore in 2015, but her greatest success was probably in Wimbledon, where she reached the final in 2012. But there she lost to Serena Williams in three sets.
It was not an easy decision, she was very grateful for the experiences on the WTA tour, Radwanska explained in her press release. Unfortunately, however, she is no longer able to train and play in the way that is necessary for the highest professional level. Recently the “Aga”, married to her hitting partner, had opened a hotel in her home country.
Novak Djokovic, on the fringes of the ATP final in London, asked about Radwanskas resignation and wished his former colleague all the best. He is surprised by the decision, Radwanska will be remembered as a “very special player” who has celebrated great success with her very own means.
