Caroline Wozniacki is one of the few players this week to love the Center Court in Singapore. The Danish woman said that offensive, defensive – everything was possible, and if you watched the game against Karolina Pliskova, you could quickly guess what she meant. The page-turning dialogue between Pliskova and interim coach Rennae Stubbs in sentence one – Pliskova:”She’s everywhere” – Stubbs:”Is this a surprise?”

In the middle of the first set, Pliskova and Wozniacki took down the service four times in a row, while the Czech could not use three set points on the serve Wozniacki at 5:4. In the tiebreak Wozniacki then led with 6:1, but Pliskova fought off the five set points with courage, but could not exploit three more set points of his own. Wozniacki finally used her sixth to 9-11. In the second set Wozniacki moved up to 3:1, got the 3:3, but could not play against himself.

It was a match-up of the good kind: the attacking Pliskova against the strong running Wozniacki, against whom she had to score the points several times, especially on the slow court. But Pliskova also managed surprisingly well from the defensive; her aggressive game, however, brought with it more mistakes, while Wozniacki did not delay a single stroke in the second round at all. 25 winners at 9 Unforced Errors were on her list in the end, at Pliskova’s balance sheet was 34 to 27.
