The big and expected winner of the November Future tournament comes from the Hietzinger TV and is called Florian Mayer. The 15-year-old Viennese, who leads the junior hobby tennis touring rankings as number one in a superior manner, met his favourite role in the final of the last season’s future tournament at UTC La Ville on Wednesday evening against the October Future Champion Martin Spengler and beat his 10-year-old opponent in just under 75 minutes with 6:4 and 6:4. But even more than the Future Season Triple, Mayer’s winning streak, which has long since taken on phenomenal proportions and is extremely worrying for the amazed and applauding competition, fascinates. The number 1 of the HTT juniors is still unbeaten at the big HTT after his three Future appearances with 14:0 victories, and has a fantastic seasonal record with a total of 43:1 on HTT and Juniors-HTT level. With the third career title in his luggage, Florian Mayer travels to the HTT-Future-Tour-Finals at the Altmannsdorf branch in Altmannsdorf tomorrow, also with a broad chest and a lot of self-confidence. A report by C. L.
Youngster Florian Mayer has been invincible to the competition for the third time this season in what is probably his last future start on the Hobby Tennis Tour, and celebrated his third HTT season and career success at Future level on Wednesday evening in the final of the Category 1 November Future Tournament. The 15-year-old, however, had to do his hands full in the first direct duel with the new October Future Champion Martin Spengler in order to clear the HTT Future Triplepack after 75 minutes. Spengler fought back in a highly competitive final and extended two great Future Weeks to the end of the season after winning the October Future with a silver platter at the last Futures Tournament of the current season.
However, despite his great performance, Spengler was in the shadow of the young man who amazed the hobby tennis scene with his enormous seasonal balance. Mayer is virtually the first “top product” of the Junior Hobby Tennis Tour launched in April last year. Children and teenagers play away from the absolute competitive tennis for points and tournament victories, in the style of the big, wide and glittering ATP world. Like on the big HTT, the boys and girls play for the four Grand Slams, duel in tournaments of 1000s, fight for points at Challenger and Future events, and all this according to age and playing strength. But above all, and the tennis coaches and experts in the city appreciate this, the kids at the Junior HTT are gathering their first tournament experiences and getting endless playing experience. Almost 500 children and adolescents are already on the Junior HTT Entry List, and there are more every week!
And Florian Mayer is without a doubt the figurehead of the splendidly launched Junior Hobby Tennis Tour project. The 15-year-old thrones at the top of the podium after winning six season’s titles – including the Grand Slam successes at the HTT Junior French Open and the HTT Junior US Open – with a five-digit number of points, and is expected to finish the year at number 1 of the Junior Hobby Tennis Tour for the second consecutive year. All in all, the young man from Hietzinger TV has already won nine career tournaments with the HTT-Juniors, and this year’s hunger for successes at the 15-year-old season despite six wins in the “Kleiner” and three tournament victories in 2017 with the “Große” does not seem to have been satisfied yet. 49:1 is the incomprehensible seasonal balance of Mayer’s, to which one In the quarter-finals against Benedikt Kronsteiner, he had to give up due to illness at 7:5,1:4 and was the only defeat of the season in 2017.
At the end of the gigantic season, however, Mayer still has two absolute highlights to look forward to. As early as Friday, the 15-year-old will fight all other HTT Future season winners for the title and a whole year of “GRATIS HTT 2018” in his HTT Future Tour Tour Finals debut against all other HTT Future season winners. At the end of the month, Mayer wants to defend his masters title at the HTT Junior Tour Finals in UTC La Ville. But Mayer will feel the headwind that awaits him at the HTT in the coming weeks and months already at the Future-Tour-Final on the upcoming weekend. Soon the time on junior HTT history will be over and nothing more than a nice memory, and his future level starts will soon be a thing of the past due to his current ITN improvement. Challenger is the future and Challenger-Starts are the next steps that Mayer will take on a glorious tennis career. And Mayer will get his first chance to compete with such players at the Future-Tour-Finals this weekend, where he will be able to meet players like the two-time Challenger season winner Alexandr Koshylak from Kazakhstan.
