WTA: Monica Puig wants to help hurricane victims

Sportingly, Monica Puig 2017 is not running smoothly. After the devastating hurricane in her homeland of Puerto Rico, however, the thoughts of the gold medal winner of Rio de Janeiro are not on the pitch anyway.

Rarely will Monica Puig’s defeat have hurt less than the 4-6 and 0-6 defeat of the world’s number one Garbine Muguruza in the second round of Tokyo.Especially since the 23-year-old is not blessed with success stories in the current campaign anyway: Puig had the last one before Tokyo in a main field in Washington at the beginning of the summer, at that time against the American Louisa Chirico.

Just over a year after her final coup against Angelique Kerber, Rio’s gold medallist is now just over 70th in the world rankings, while the semi-final of Doha, in which she lost to Caroline Wozniacki, stands out by far as the best result in 2017.

I promise to do everything in my power to help my beloved island and help my fellow citizens rebuild Puerto Rico “.Puig has already taken a first step: setting up a website on which the victims of the hurricane can be donated worldwide.

“100 percent of the donations will be spent on reconstruction in Puerto Rico,”Puig explained.Who would like to help, can do this under www.youcaring.com/donatewithmonica
