Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal could soon be receiving the next award. The Laureus-Foundation has the choice for the sports moment of the year and the two tennis stars have a good chance of winning.
It was certainly one of the great highlights of the sports year 2017 – perhaps even THE moment for all sports lovers. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been on tour together since 2001 and one of the most exciting rivalries that sport history has ever seen developed. The two superstars met 38 times.
The record speaks for the Spaniard, who won 23 duels against Federer. Most recently, however, the Swiss player set an exclamation point after another and beat the permanent rivals from Mannacor four times last season alone – at the Australian Open, in Miami and Shanghai even in the finals.
At the Laver Cup in Prague, the long-awaited wish of the tennis community was finally fulfilled: For Team Europe,”FedEx” and “Rafa” were on the pitch as a team and played doubles together for the first time. In the match tiebreak, the “Fedal”double beat the Americans Jack Sock and Sam Querrey. There was a very special connection between the players with the most Grand Slam victories (Federer 19, Nadal 16). With joy and team spirit, Federer and Nadal fought together and were in each other’s arms after the match ball. Was this the sports moment of 2017?
It comes quite close to this, because the Laureus Foundation lets you vote on the Internet. Since 2000, the “Laureus Sport for Good”foundation has been awarding prizes for outstanding achievements in the field of sport and has all kinds of prominent partners and athletes in its ranks. Now, as every year, there are a number of sporting events to choose from, which can be considered as a sporting event of the year – including the magnificent doubles. Currently (as of 04.12.2017) Federer and Nadal rank third in the ranking.
If you also want to vote for the double of the year, you can do so here until the end of the year.
