Davis Cup: German Davis Cup Team in Australia on hard court

The German Davis Cup team of captain Michael Kohlmann will play the first round duel in Australia as expected. The venue was Brisbane.

The German Davis Cup team will play on a hard court in the first round of the World Group in Australia. The hosts decided on Monday. The game at this year’s semi-finalist will take place from 2. till 4. February 2018 in Brisbane. Australia were eliminated in Belgium last season. Germany, on the other hand, had already lost to the Belgians in round one.

The selection of the German Tennis Federation (DTB) is probably led by Alexander Zverev (Hamburg). The 20-year-old had already announced his desire to play in Australia.

“I spoke to Boris (Becker, Head of Men’s Tennis, d. Red.) already said that next year I will really do my best to either get very, very far in the Davis Cup or even win the whole thing,”Zverev recently told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).

In September Germany, without Zverev, his brother Mischa and Philipp Kohlschreiber, had secured their place in the world group with a narrow 3:2 in Portugal. Jan-Lennard Struff had clinched the decisive third point for Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann’s team with a five-set win over Joao Sousa.
