Roger Federer is once again the best. At the prize-giving ceremony for the Swiss athlete of the year, the 36-year-old was once again one step ahead. His children react astonished and made them laugh.
The next award for Roger Federer. The number two in the world ranking was voted for the seventh time as Sportsman of the Year in his home country of Switzerland. For the 36-year-old, it is actually the twelfth title in 2017.
These include seven tournament victories with two Grand Slam titles, three ATP Awards (Comeback of the Year, Fair Play Award and Fan Darling), the title at the Laver Cup and now the award in Switzerland.
In total, the 19-time Grand Slam winner received the award for the seventh time after the years 2003,2004,2006,2007,2012 and 2014. It is the next milestone in the career of the most successful tennis player of all time. With 95 career titles, the “Maestro” is only behind Jimmy Connors, who won 109 titles on the ATP tour.
In 2015, Federer had to give up his position in the sunshine to his tennis colleague Stan Wawrinka as Swiss Sportsman of the Year.
My children asked me:”Why did you get a prize? Nadal is the world’s number one,”Federer explained in a video message from the training camp in Dubai.
Federer won the election with 36.88 percent of the votes, ahead of his fellow countrymen Nino Schurter (mountain bike, 25.63 percent) and Beat Feuz (ski, 15.55 percent). In the women’s category, Wendy Holdener was honoured as Sportswoman of the Year in Switzerland.
“I’m honored to have received this award. I want to share this with my team, because without them I would not be who I am today. Thank you,”the four-time family man wrote on Twitter.
