WTA: Caroline Wozniacki enjoying every moment

Caroline Wozniacki almost dropped out of the top 100 last year – but in the coming season she will be one of the top players on the WTA Tour.

In tennis, Andre Agassi is basically always a role model – in sporting terms. The American has revolutionized the return game during his active life, setting fashionable accents like no other player before him – and disproving the laws of tennis physics with his 1992 Wimbledon victory over Goran Ivanisevic. At that time, the premise was that only those who had a premium that was usually not achievable were actually entitled to the title on Church Road. Agassi didn’t care any more, at the end of his career he won all four major tournaments on the Tour at least once.

But there was also a time when Andre Agassi had to walk through a deep valley. Outside the top 100 of the world ranking. And to Caroline Wozniacki.

The Danish rider may not have fallen as low as Agassi, but 74th place in the ranking did not at any time meet the demands of the former number one in the world. I think that’s the beauty of tennis,”explained the current number three in the world in an interview:” You can always improve. I’ve lived through ups and downs – and the successes of my hard time have been all the more appreciated.”

Wozniacki finished the 2017 season with a win at the WTA finals in Singapore, but the first few months of the season had great frustration potential: Wozniacki lost a total of six finals (in Doha against Karolina Pliskova, in Dubai against Elina Svitolina, in Miami against Johanna Contacts, in Eastbourne again against Plsikova, in Bastad against Kater)

“I just love playing. I love what I do,”Wozniacki continued. In fact, she doesn’t seem to be bothered by the expectation that she will finally land the big coup at a Grand Slam tournament,”I don’t feel any pressure. I’m just enjoying every moment.”

Wozniacki will make the coming season in Auckland, according to her world ranking position as the tournament’s favourite. What may not mean much in women’s tennis in 2018 – in the past year alone, the top position in the rankings was occupied by five different players,”I think we have a very good balance in the front ranks. There are so many good players. It’s really hard.”
