Davis Cup: Steve Darcis on Davis Cup defeat:”I still don’t sleep well”.

Steve Darcis has still not coped with the final defeat of the Belgian Davis Cup team against France. Belgium lost the third final in just as many attempts. A circumstance that makes Darcis even three weeks later still restless nights.

“When I think back, I still can’t sleep well,”Darcis told the Belgian newspaper La Meuse,”I’ve received a lot of congratulations for my good season, but the most memorable thing is this final.”

The 33-year-old lost both his singles match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and the all-important fifth match against Lucas Pouille,”This is certainly one of the most bitter disappointments of my career.”

After the two defeats, Darcis had congratulated the opponent and did not want to know of any injury. In order to be in Lille, I only paused for three weeks after Antwerp (his last tournament on the ATP tour, note) – that was certainly not ideal.”

At his home tournament, the world’s No. 77 complained of a sting in his elbow, which even required injections:”During the Davis Cup, I felt a lot of pain because of the short pause,” The situation has not improved since then:”I can’t even hold a glass properly today”.

Darcis will undergo further treatments before Christmas. At the start of the season, he is aiming for qualification at the tournament in Doha (1. till 6. January) if necessary, even without training before.
