ATP: Fever!

Bitter disappointment for Dominic Thiem: After a good performance so far, the 24-year-old has to retire at the ATP tournament in Doha (Qatar) due to a cold before the semi-final against Gael Monfils.

As tennisnet. com learned during a telephone call with coach Günter Bresnik, Thiem is in bed with fever. Bresnik said that tennis is out of the question at the moment, so it is not possible to compete against Monfils.

The cold comes at an unfavourable time: Thiem has so far shown strong performances in Doha and won his games against Evgeny Donskoy, Aljaz Bedene and Stefanos Tsitsipas without losing the set. Thiem is the only remaining seeded player at the tournament in Qatar and would have been the favourite for the tournament victory.

According to Bresnik, travel to Melbourne is delayed by the illness of Thiems. The flight to Australia would be too dangerous with fever, so the Lichtenwörther has to stay in bed in Doha until he is well again.

Thiem won the Tiebreak Tens on 10. However, participation is now also questionable. Thiem won the last edition of the show event at the Stadthalle Tournament in Vienna.

We wish Dominic Thiem a speedy recovery and all the best for the upcoming tasks.
