ATP: Feliciano Lopez has Queen’s in focus

2017 did not run according to Feliciano Lopez’s claims for many years – with one exception. And the Spanish left-hander would like to confirm this in the season that has just begun.

Stan Wawrinka, Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych and Grigor Dimitrov:”Only the very best tennis professionals can claim to have beaten these four gentlemen within a calendar year. It didn’t even take Feliciano Lopez a whole week to do this – on his way to the title in London’s Queen’s Club. As Lopez said to El Mundo,”Because Queen’s is one of the most impressive and traditional tournaments on the whole tour,”he is committed to defending the same goal in 2018.

The rest of last season wasn’t quite so smooth for Lopez: 500 points were awarded for the success in London, but at the moment 1285 points are due to the Spaniard who is playing in Sydney this week. In the world rankings, this is only 36th place, while the career high is listed at Lopez in twelfth place.

After his active career, Feliciano Lopez has already created his first fragrance brands, and he will head the tournament in Madrid as Tournament Director. “From the next edition, Manolo, who has just turned 80, will be honorary president of the tournament.”

Lopez himself is 36 years of age, in men’s tennis in 2018 there is no reason to embark on a farewell tour. Even though the ravages of time are gnawing at the left-hander residing in Madrid.

“I’ve held a racquet in my hands since I was five years old. And now I’m 36,”Lopez continues,”and at the age of ten, I’ve only concentrated on tennis. I know there’s a violent mental change coming, but of course I always knew that this journey would end at some point,” Sometimes he wonders how to plan his day without the obligation to go to training.

The answer to this question still has time: Feliciano Lopez is sure to be on the ATP tour at least this year.
