ATP/WTA: James Blake confirmed as new Miami Open Tournament Director

The Miami Open has a new tournament director: former professional James Blake will take the lead and will be in charge of player communication.

The “man with the headband” takes the lead at the Masters-1000 tournament in Miami. James Blake will be the frontman of the Sunshine Tournament from now on. Former number four was announced as the new chief on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old finished his career in 2013 and has been seen on many tennis courts around the world since then.

According to Executive Director Adam Barrett, the extroverted American is just right for this position:”James’ experience and knowledge as a player and tennis professional, his leadership qualities and his close connection to sport make him the perfect choice as Tournament Director in Miami.”

Blake is supposed to be the bridge from the tournament leaders to the players, Barrett continues. In addition, the Media division and new innovations are to fall within Blake’s remit. Blake will retain his current position as President of the American Tennis Association and expert in various sports portals.

With the new office, the ex-professional will also move the Miami Open from the current venue in Key Biscane to Miami Dolphins Hard Rock Stadium. From 2019 onwards, the home of the American football team will be transformed into a tennis stamp.
