Australian Open: French Open winner Ostapenko eliminated in Melbourne

Roland Garros winner Jelena Ostapenko (20) from Latvia has been eliminated as fifth top 10 player at the Australian Open. The world ranked seventh place was defeated in the third round by the Estin Anett Contacts 3:6,6:1,3:6.

Before Ostapenko, who suffered from left thigh problems, Garbine Muguruza (Spain/No. 3), Venus Williams (USA/No. 5), Johanna Kontakt (UK/No. 9) and Coco Vandeweghe (USA/No. 10) had already failed in Melbourne. Ostapenko won the French Open in Paris last year, surprisingly enough. She celebrated her second tournament victory in autumn in Seoul. This year she lost in the first round before the first Grand Slam of the season at the preparation tournaments in Shenzhen and Sydney.
