Grigor Dimitrov will meet Kyle Edmund from Britain in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open – the “Matchtipp of the day” presented by LeoVegas.
For the Australian fans it was an evening to forget. Not because of the quality of the match in the night session – the result clouded the mood. Grigor Dimitrov took the victory over Nick Kyrgios to Aussie’s heart and, after a nerve-racking game, went down as a brilliant winner. After the match ball, 7:6 (3), 7:6 (4), 4:6 and 7:6 (4) stood on the scoreboard and the local hero stepped into the catacombs with his head lowered.
In the quarter-finals, number three in the world will now face the British player Kyle Edmund. The 23-year-old is surprisingly among the last eight of the tournament and convinced with his clear and consistently positive mental strength. With Kevin Anderson and Andreas Seppi, Edmund prevailed against strong players and confirms the good physical condition from the preparation.
Against Dimitrov, exploiting opportunities will be the key to success. The Bulgarian on the opposite side tends to sway one or the other time when serving and offers his opponent the opportunity to make pressure from the beginning. From the baseline, Dimitrov is clearly stronger and seems to have taken the long matches out of the rounds before without any physical problems.
Dimitrov is also far ahead in terms of experience. The 26-year-old has often been on the pitch in front of such a backdrop – for Edmund it is the first quarter-finals ever for a major.
Betting provider LeoVegas also sees the advantages on the side of last year’s semi-finalist Dimitrov and writes out a quota of 1.30. Edmund enters the match with 3.55 odds.
