Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki play for the title in the final of the Australian Open 2018 – the “Matchtipp of the day” presented by LeoVegas Sport.
It is the duel of the number one against the number two in the world – in the finals of the Australian Open. And for both players it will be the duel for the first title in the Happy Slam.
The former number one in the world, Caroline Wozniacki, meets the current leader Simona Halep. The finalists’ playgrounds could not be more identical. Both rely on their physical and defence skills – the ability to switch quickly to the offensive is also one of the strengths of both players. And: Wozniacki and Halep fought off several match points against each other in the current tournament.
In principle, the final game is already heading for a marathon match before the first serve. The serves of the two players generate only few free points and are not considered to be a figurehead. Speaking of the figurehead: The will to win and the uncompromising work on the baseline are the two of them.
The current number one from Romania changed her ankle early in the tournament and has been playing “all or nothing”ever since. The 26-year-old added that the time for rest was only available to her after the tournament. There was no physical limitation in the semi-final against Kerber – quite the contrary. The Romanian seems to still have grains in her tank after more than two hours of play – and this in every match.
Wozniacki doesn’t seem to be tired either. Against Jana Fett, the Dane was almost eliminated, trailing 1:5 and 15:40 in the third set and made the monster comeback. The 27-year-old winner of the final, who won six games in a row, entered the next round.
Both troughs will prepare for a long and exhausting game and aim for the first Grand Slam victory over battle and willpower. It is almost impossible to predict a favourite. Wozniacki has more experience at this level, the grain of carelessness lies with Halep.
