Laver Cup: Schedule, Day 1: Federer is missing – Zverev and Thiem in the singles

The Laver Cup will start on Friday without Roger Federer.But Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem are in the singles, Rafael Nadal plays doubles.

A little surprise at the opening ceremony in Prague on Thursday noon: Roger Federer will not actively intervene on the first day of the Laver Cup.The “Maestro” had sounded the all-clear after his back problems.Björn Borg, however, was to decide how often he would compete.

The captain of “Team Europe” lets Federer take his place on the bench.In the first singles match (from 1 pm) Marin Cilic and his successor Frances Tiafoe will open the match.Afterwards Dominic Thiem will play against John Isner.Alexander Zverev demands Denis Shapovalov in the Night Session (from 7 pm).Afterwards, Tomas Berdych and Rafael Nadal compete with Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock.The dream double Nadal/Federer can still be used on Saturday or Sunday.

The Laver Cup will be played in three days and twelve matches.Each day there are three individual matches and a doubles match.On Friday and Saturday there is a day session as well as a night session.The Laver Cup will close on Sunday with a day session.

Single and double matches are played in the Laver Cup in best-of-three mode.A match win will bring one point on Friday, two points on Saturday and three points on the final day.In order to win the Laver Cup, the team needs 13 out of 24 possible points.

After the twelve matches between Team Europe and the 12:12 World Choice, there will be a decider in doubles on the last day.

In the course of the Laver Cup each player completes a maximum of 2 single games.Four of the six players in each team must compete in doubles, with each doubles combination only allowed to compete together once.
