ATP: Indian Wells once again awarded Best 1000 Tournament

The BNP Parisbas Open in Indian Wells has won the award for the fourth consecutive year for the best ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year.

Year after year, the tennis stars get enthusiastic when the train makes a stopover at the paradisiacal facility in the Coachella Valley. For Dominic Thiem, the trip to the Californian desert is also one of the highlights of his tournament calendar – so it doesn’t matter that he has never made it past the quarter-finals in Indian Wells before.

After his hard-won win over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Austria’s number one player had the honour of posing for the photographers at the presentation of the ATP World Tour Award for the best 1000th event of the pre-season with Tournament Director Tommy Haas and ATP Vice President Linda Clark.

“As a former player and current tournament director, I can understand why the event won this prize for the fourth time in a row,”said Haas in his acceptance speech.

In the run-up to the 2017 edition, the Indian Wells Tennis Garden was adapted to modern conditions with numerous innovations. In addition to 21 additional restaurants and renovations in Stage 1,62 palm trees were added to the luxurious complex.

Acapulco, however, received the award for the best 500cc tournament, and in the 250cc category players chose the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha.
