Ski-Alpine: Former ÖSV star Görgl starts his music career
Elisabeth “Lizz” Görgl is now performing herself as the singer of the national anthem.It is a great honour for me to have been asked to sing the hymn,”said the former ski racer at the opening of the home game in the Davis Cup tennis championship between Austria and Romania on Friday at the facility of UTC Wels.
The 36-year-old double world champion of 2011 and two-time Olympic medalist announced her resignation last June after almost 400 World Cup races (7 victories) in Vienna with great emotion.In addition to skiing, the multi-talented Styrian singer had always cherished singing as her great passion.At the opening ceremony in 2011, for example, she sang the official World Cup song in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and won her first gold medal in the Super-G the next day.
“Now memories of the World Cup 2011 come alive when the anthem was played for me.An indescribable feeling that you never forget,”said Görgl, looking forward to Friday.The ex-racing racer, who has a relationship with musician Chris Harras, now produces music CDs and will also present her new song “It’s Up to You” after the anthem.On Saturday evening, Görgl’s big farewell party will take place in Salzburg.
