Ski jumping: Thomas Diethart in Ramsau badly overthrown

Former Four Hills Tournament winner Thomas Diethart crashed hard on Wednesday during a training session in Ramsau. Diethart, who has been working on a comeback to the World Cup circus for several seasons after heavy falls, lost control after the jump and crashed on the stem. Diethart was taken by rescue helicopter to the deaconess hospital in Schladming.

A computer tomography has shown a severe concussion with slight bleeding into the brain. This is why Diethart, whose condition is not considered alarming, is monitored in the intensive care unit. Diethart had been briefly unconscious after the fall. In addition, the 25-year-old suffered a pulmonary contusion, severe abrasions and a laceration in the face. No bone fractures were detected. Diethart is fully communicative, but will remain under close observation until at least Thursday.

After another control CT there will be an update to the condition of the ski jumper on Thursday.
