Speed skating: End of the season and Olympic Games for speed skater Kraus
For ice speed skater Bente Kraus, the dream of taking part in the second Olympics has come true. In a press release, the 28-year-old from Berlin explained that she had to end the season due to various injuries.
This rules out a start for the sports soldier at the winter games in February 2018 in Pyeongchang/South Korea “This situation is absolutely bitter for me,”Kraus wrote.
Investigations of the new association physician Martin Bartsch at the Berlin Charite and his predecessor Gerald Lutz resulted in severe damage to the quadriceps tendon in Bente Kraus’ right knee. The recovery lasted at least three to four months. Kraus is already in the rehabilitation phase and wants to return to the ice as soon as possible.
In October 2016, Bente Kraus made headlines at the German Championships when she snatched the victory over 3,000 m away from five-time Olympic champion Claudia Pechstein. At their so far only Olympic start in 2014, Kraus had become eleventh in each case over 3000 and 5000m.
