Skeleton: Jungk takes EM bronze in Igls
Skeleton Vice World Champion Axel Jungk has won the bronze medal for the first time. The 26-year-old finished third in the European Championship ranking behind Dominator Martins Dukurs from Latvia and the Russian Nikita Tregubow in Austria’s Igls on Friday. For the ninth time in a row, Dukurs was crowned the best skeleton pilot on the continent. Christopher Grotheer and Alexander Gassner finished fourth and sixth in the European Championship.
The European Skeleton Championships will be held as part of a World Cup race in which all non-European competitors will be removed from the result.
In the World Cup standings, it was enough for Jungk to finish fourth, as Yun Sungbin secured second place behind Dukurs. The South Korean, who had previously won three World Cups in a row, leads the overall World Cup.
At the Winter Games in his home country in February, everything boils down to a close duel with Dukurs.
