Tobogganing: Geisenberger wins in Lake Placid, Huefner fourth

Olympic luge champion Natalie Geisenberger won the luge competition in Pyeongchang about eight weeks before the winter games (9. till 25. February) underlined its strong form. The Miesbacher celebrated her fourth victory in the sixth World Cup of the season in Lake Placid, New York. World champion Tatjana Huefner (Blankenburg) had to settle for fourth place.

Behind Geisenberger, the two Canadians Alex Gough and Kimberley McRae landed in second and third place. Dajana Eitberger (Ilmenau) achieved a partial success with fifth place in the fight for the third Olympic ticket against her rival Julia Taubitz (Annaberg-Buchholz), who had not competed on the Olympic track of 1932 and 1980. The decision on participation will be made next week.

In the overall World Cup, Geisenberger extended her lead on permanent rival Huefner to 80 points after the last competition of the year.

In the evening, the sprints of the women and men (18.45/19.30 hrs) and the double-seater (19.30 hrs) are still on the programme. On Friday, Olympic champion Felix Loch (Berchtesgaden) took seventh place, after having clinched three victories in series.
