Winter Sports: Third in Antholz: Peiffer presents biathletes with first podium place of the year
Arnd Peiffer gave the German biathlon men their first podium position in the Olympic year. Exactly three weeks before the opening of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang (9. till 25. February) the 30-year-old gave a flawless performance in the difficult wind conditions of the sprint over 10 km at the World Cup in Antholz/Italy and ran to third place.
“It wasn’t easy today, so I’m a little proud that it worked out. I didn’t have a bad wind lying there, standing upright I pulled myself together,”said Peiffer on the ARD microphone:” It wasn’t my best running day, so I had to torture myself.
On the winner Johannes Thingnes Bö (Norway/1 error) the former world champion missed 42.2 seconds, the six-time overall World Cup winner Martin Fourcade (0/+12.8) was second. The Frenchman built with his 16th birthday. In the second place on the podium, he achieved his impressive record series.
The last World Cup before the season’s climax on Saturday will continue with the pursuit races (from 13.15 in the LIVETICKER), with the women’s World Champion Laura Dahlmeier in second place on the track. Finally, on Sunday (from 12.30 at the LIVETICKER) the two mass start competitions will take place.
