Bob: Four: Lochner wins overall World Cup – Walther wins at Königssee
World champion Johannes Lochner travels to Pyeongchang for the Winter Games as overall World Cup winner in four-man bobsleigh. At the final at the Königssee, however, it put a damper on the 27-year-old’s performance three weeks before the Olympic Games. With the victory of Nico Walther it was enough for Lochner only to the fourth place, this was enough for winning the crystal ball.
This makes Lochner the best pilot of the World Cup season for the first time and is valid at the Olympic Games in South Korea (9th place). till 25. February) despite the slight setback as a favourite in the big sled.
At the final at the Königssee, however, Walther was much stronger and celebrated his third victory of the season. The second place went to the Latvian Oskar Melbardis and Benjamin Maier from Austria.
Francesco Friedrich, who on Saturday had a clear success in the two-man bobsleigh swing for Pyeongchang, finished in the sixth place.
