Winter sports: Snowboard: Jörg and Hofmeister on the podium in Bansko
The German snowboarders Selina Jörg (Sonthofen) and Ramona Hofmeister (Bischofswiesen) stormed the podium at the parallel giant slalom in Bansko, Bulgaria. The 30-year-old Jörg only had to admit defeat in the final of the Olympic dress rehearsal, as in December in Cortina d’ Ampezzo world champion Ester Ledecka from the Czech Republic.
In the small bronze finale Hofmeister, who had failed in the semi-finals due to Ledecka, won against the Russian Alena Sawarsina.
Jörg and the nine years younger Hofmeister are in the German squad for the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang (9. till 25. February) and are among the medal candidates in South Korea. In the overall World Cup Hofmeister is second with 4130 points behind Ledecka (5290), Jörg is fourth (3610).
Amelie Kober (Miesbach) missed her third round of the World Cup after her ankle fracture in November. For Cheyenne Loch (Schliersee) was in the round of sixteen against Selina Jörg Endstation.
The competition was less successful from the men’s point of view. In the victory of the Vancouver Olympic champion Jasey-Jay Anderson (Canada) the Pyeongchang starters Stefan Baumeister (Aising-Pang/21.), Alexander Bergmann (Bischofswiesen/27.) and Patrick Bussler (Aschheim/32.) messed up their dress rehearsals for the season’s highlight.
