Tobogganing: Eggert/Benecken win European Championship title and overall World Cup

The toboggan world champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken won two weeks before the Olympic Winter Games (9. till 25. February) won their third European Championship title and impressively underpinned their favorite role for Pyeongchang.

The duo from Thuringia (Ilsenburg/Suhl) won the European Championships at the final World Cup weekend in Sigulda, Latvia, and also prematurely secured their third victory in the overall World Cup.

Eggert/Benecken, who prevailed over the local heroes Andris and Juris Sics as well as the Bayern Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (Berchtesgaden/Königssee), had already won the European Championship in 2013 and 2016 as well as the overall World Cup 2014/15 and last season. Robin Geueke and David Gamm (Winterberg) only finished 16th.

On Saturday the women (11.20 and 12.40 o’ clock) will also reach for the European Championships medals. On Sunday, the men’s races (08.15 and 09.50), the sprint races (from 11.20 a. m.) and the team relay (13.50 a. m.) are on the agenda.
