Cross-country skiing: Hennig in 13th place in Olympic test
Cross-country skier Katharina Hennig came as a surprise at the Olympic dress rehearsal in Seefeld with 13th place in the 10 km mass start race. The 21-year-old from Oberwiesenthal scored her best result of the season with the victory of the American Jessica Diggins and justified her nomination for the winter games in South Korea.
“This was a crazy race. I’m surprised it went so well for myself. This gives me self-confidence for the Olympics,”said Hennig after the race on next year’s World Championship circuit.
The DSV starters, by the way, fell short of expectations after an intensive training camp. Stefanie Böhler (Ibach) finished 26th, Germany’s best distance runner Nicole Fessel (Oberstdorf) had to settle for 30th place.
Already in the freestyle sprint on Saturday Victoria Carl convinced as twelfth. The 22-year-old from Zella-Mehlis was the only German starter to enter the semi-finals and set her best result of the season. At the same time, the Swiss Laurien van der Graaff and Sophie Caldwell (USA) shared the victory.
“That was balm for the soul. We had a large training camp with a lot of scope, at the Olympics there may be even more,”said Carl. Sprint hopeful Sandra Ringwald (Schonach) landed on the World Championship track of the coming year on the 19th place. I know I can do better than that. Check off”, said the 27-year-old.
