Ski Alpin: Victory in Kranjska Gora!
Ski superstar Marcel Hirscher triumphed again this season. After his victory on Sunday in the Kranjska Gora slalom, the 29-year-old from Salzburg has won the overall World Cup for the seventh time in a row. As in the previous year, he also won the disciplinary championships in slalom and giant slalom. Hirscher holds on to a total of 17 crystal balls.
At the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, which ended a week ago, the Austrian won gold in combination and giant slalom. His successes in this season are all the more remarkable in view of his previous history: In August, Hirscher had suffered an ankle fracture in the event of a training fall and had to shorten his preparation programme considerably.
Hirscher clinched the twelfth overall World Cup victory this season. The Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen, who is now 289 points behind him in the overall standings, but will only contest two races, finished second (+1.22 seconds). Second-best Austrian on Sunday was non-Olympic participant Marc Digruber in twelfth place, while Marco Schwarz, who was in poor health, finished 18th. Christian Hirschbühl retired in the first round, Manuel Feller and Michael Matt missed the finish in the decision.
