Ski Alpin: Marcel Hirscher rejects speed plans

Ski star Marcel Hirscher has made it clear in his current blog that it is above all the joy of skiing that decides his future career. The seven-time overall World Cup winner rather rejected speed plans. It takes a lot of time and experience, and he doesn’t have that, Hirscher stressed on Monday. He did not want to face up to this task at this time.

“I am overwhelmed at how this winter went for me,” Hirscher wrote in his personal review of the season on redbull.com on Monday. In the end, he also refers to the topic currently most in demand.

“As far as the future is concerned, I can’t say what will happen now! That much I can say about the speculations around an increased focus on the speed disciplines: to be successful in downhill and super-G, it takes a lot of time and experience and I don’t have that”.

After a racing winter like this, he is looking forward to relaxation and letting his mind wander, “Only then will I get back into fitness training, take my first turns and see if I enjoy it. I’m not looking for new goals and challenges, the joy of skiing is enough for me and if it’s there, then nothing stands in the way of another season”.

After the World Cup final in Aare on Monday evening, Hirscher makes an appearance on Servus TV, Thursday he takes off for heliskiing in Canada, “Afterwards I hope for warm weather and lots of sun so that I can unpack my swimming trunks soon,” continues Hirscher’s blog: “The goal is to switch off properly for a while and lie on my rotten skin, I wonder how long this will work.

Hirscher also announced a change in personnel. His longstanding co-serviceman Johann Strobl will change his career.
