Ski jumping: ÖSV team in Planica clearly past the podium
Austria’s quartet had to make do with sixth place in the ski jumping team competition at the ski jumping World Cup finale in Planica on Saturday. Gregor Schlierenzauer (209.5 m/214), Daniel Huber (220.5/209), Clemens Aigner (202.5/211) and Stefan Kraft (228.5/240.5) scored 1,398.7 points. The victory went to the Norwegians (1,620.2) ahead of Germany (1,482.9) and hosts Slovenia (1,474.5).
Unfortunately, it was not a good day for the team, we were far away from the podium. We have to improve the flight qualities enormously”, was Kraft’s critical comment, but he could be satisfied with his second flight.
While the Salzburg native wants to attack again in the last season competition on Sunday (10.00 CEST/live ORF 1), the season for Schlierenzauer is already over. From time to time, I flashed through my potential”, was the summary of the record World Cup winner from Tyrol: “It was a bit like Russian roulette. If I get it, I was there. I need to become more stable.”
Best skier in both rounds was overall World Cup winner Kamil Stoch. The Pole landed at 248.5 and 244.5 meters. Nevertheless, his team were four points off the podium in the end. Slovenia thus prevented a repeat of the Olympic result of South Korea, where Norway won ahead of Germany and Poland.
