Alpine Skiing: But no resignation from Elena Fanchini
The Italian ski racer Elena Fanchini has denied her resignation announced by the media.
She wrote her Instagram post in a moment of frustration and disappointment after the fibula fracture suffered during training and by no means explained her resignation, the 33-year-old is quoted on the website of the Italian Winter Sports Association (FISI).
She wants to get well first and only then decide about her future, says the oldest of the three Fanchini sisters. The speed specialist and downhill vice world champion from 2005 suffered an injury during training in Copper Mountain (USA). Last season Fanchini had broken off due to a tumor disease.
The oldest of the three Fanchini siblings celebrated two downhill World Cup victories in her career, winning Lake Louise in 2005 and Cortina d’Ampezzo ten years later. Elena Fanchini contested her last race in the World Cup on 17 December 2017 at the Super-G in Val d’Isere (39th).
