Ski Alpin: Neureuther wants to participate in Olympic Games 2022

The German ski racer Felix Neureuther is thinking about continuing his alpine career until the Olympics in 2022.However, after the forthcoming 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, he is considering abandoning the giant slalom.

“It is possible that I will then only continue in the slalom and drive for two, three or four years,”said Neureuther to the German Press Agency (dpa).

At the season’s highlight in South Korea next February, the most successful German World Cup starter will be almost 34 years old.Four years later in Beijing he would be almost 38 years old.

Starting this season, skis are used in giant slalom skiing, which strain the back – Neureuthers problem area for years.Without discipline, the athlete could save energy for the slalom. In the goal-kick, older athletes have also repeatedly celebrated successes: ÖSV ace Mario Matt, for example, won the Olympic gold medal in Sochi at the age of almost 35.

Whether and how Neureuther will continue his career after the coming winter also depends on other factors:”If I can no longer drive at the highest level in my sport, then I would stop.”

In addition, the environment in the association plays a role (“You also have to see what happens with the coaches at DSV”) and his family situation with girlfriend Miriam Gössner.

“The Miri and I, we’re having a baby, and we’re building a house to go with it,”recalled Neureuther, who is preparing for the start of the alpine season at the end of October six months before his Olympic races at the training camp in New Zealand.
