Handball: DHB women with a cancelling victory in Turkey
The German handball players celebrated their first victory in the European Championship qualification and thus made an important step on the way to the final round in France in 2018.The team of national coach Michael Biegler won in Turkey against an atmospheric backdrop of 30:16 (14:11).
After a disappointing draw against Lithuania (26-26), Germany are now in Group 6 with three points after two games, and are now temporarily in first place.In the evening, however, Spain regained the lead of the standings by beating Lithuania.
“We are very happy about the clear victory.We had something to make up for, and we acted as a team.The atmosphere was special, but it only pushed us forward,”said Antje Lauenroth, a circular runner.Best German throwing woman was Svenja Huber with six goals.
The German team had a much more determined and concentrated performance from the outset than on Wednesday against Lithuania and scored three goals.Despite a weaker period in the middle of the first half, Germany remained in the lead and went into the second half with a 14:11.
After the break, the German defence stood firm in the saddle, scored the first goal only after ten minutes in the second half and silenced the crowded Amasya sports hall.
Anne Hubinger was missing injured.The 24-year-old backroom player suffered a dislocation of the right ankle joint during Saturday evening’s final training session and is threatening to play for the World Cup at home (1st place).till 17.According to the DHB’s objective, the medals will be the focus of the DHB.
The German team will meet Spain in March for the European Championship qualification.The top two and the best third of all seven groups will be at the European Championship in France in December 2018.At the start of the World Cup, Germany will meet on 1.December in Cameroon.
