Handball:: Nagy ends international career
Hungary’s idol Laszlo Nagy (36) has ended his career in the national team.After almost 18 years and 199 international matches, the goal-hazardous backroom player will no longer be playing for his country at the European Championship in Croatia in January 2018.Nagy announced this at a press conference on Monday.
“Many memories, experiences, friendships and love for the team remain.It was an uplifting feeling to play for the national team,”Nagy said.The left-hander, captain of the Hungarian top club MKB Veszprem, has taken part in six World Cups and four European Championships, scoring 728 goals for his country.
“It’s a great loss.We are losing a role model and one of the best backroom players in the world,”said national coach Ljubomir Vranjes, who also looks after Nagy in the Veszprem club:”It won’t be an easy task, but we have to continue.There are some young players who now have to take responsibility.”
