Basketball: Bamberg hopes for EuroLeague membership
Brose Bamberg is striving for full membership of the Basketball EuroLeague:”The current situation is not acceptable,”said Michael Stoschek, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, to Sport Bild.So far, only the German champion in the premier class of club competitions has taken part.
“There are currently eleven permanent members who are members of the EuroLeague.Five other teams have to qualify in terms of sport, but they have no rights and are not involved in TV and sponsorship revenue,”says Stoschek:” This two-class society is neither economically nor sport-oriented.
And Stoschek goes one step further:”In many close matches last season, we were painfully reminded of who selects and rewards the referees in the EuroLeague,”said the 69-year-old.Bamberg had lost several times in 2016/17.
There are currently 16 teams in the EuroLeague, according to Stoschek there are plans to increase the number of teams to 18 or even 20 “.What this means in concrete terms, I can’t judge at the moment.”
