Basketball: Wright leads Bamberg to next victory
Brose Bamberg, led by newcomer Dorell Wright, celebrated his second victory in the EuroLeague in three days. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated Spain’s Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz 78:72, who was still without victory. The former NBA champion Wright, who was only signed up in the morning, was the best Brose thrower with 13 points.
Two days before the Bundesliga top game against champions Alba Berlin and two days after Spanish EuroCup winner Unicaja Malaga (80:76), Bamberg was particularly defensive in the midst of his deadlines. With now two victories and two defeats, the team climbed into the middle of the standings in the royal class.
Wright in particular caused a stir. The US forward, who won the title with Miami Heat in his home country in 2006, managed to win a four-point game after 50 seconds on the field when he converted a three-way game including a free-throw. Wright, who was drawn by Bosnian first division club BC Igokea, scored one point more than German international Lucca Staiger and Leon Radosevic (twenty each). Among the guests, Jayson Granger scored 16 points and the international Johannes Voigtmann scored four points.
Bamberg’s next task in the EuroLeague will be to play away at Serbia’s top club Roter Stern Belgrade on 2 January. November.
