Ski-Alpin: Men’s cancellation?
Already at the women’s giant slalom on Saturday in Sölden, the wind was leading downwards for a transfer of the start. Whether the men’s race can be held on Sunday is questionable. Wind gusts in hurricane force are announced for Sunday on the Rettenbachferner, according to Markus Waldner, the head of the FIS men’s race, a first decision will be made at 6.30 am.
“The weather forecast is not so good, but the program is now running normally. The piste is slipped cleanly, then the course is set and at 5 p. m. the team leader’s meeting takes place. We plan as usual, as if the weather were fine,”Waldner said in an interview with ORF TV on Saturday afternoon in Sölden.
Sunday morning, a first decision will be made at 6.30 a. m., because it is also a question of whether the gondola lift is able to run at all. And there are also numerous temporary structures in the finish area for the safety of spectators and employees. If it’s too dangerous, you won’t let people climb the mountain in the first place.
The prediction is also that it should get worse with the continuation of the day, which means that you can’t go back with the start time – 10.00 am/13.00 pm “Either it’s tomorrow, otherwise it will be cancelled. And then it is definitely cancelled”, Waldner told ORF. Postponement to Monday is not an issue. According to the regulations, races, if they cannot take place at the start or the final on the scheduled day, will not be recorded.
