Figure Skating: Pair runner Savchenko/Massot only second in Canada

The World Championship runners-up Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot from Oberstdorf finished second in the pair-running competition of the Grand Prix Skate Canada with 215.66 points.

They missed the hoped-for victory because Massot missed two single jumps in the stylistically outstanding freestyle. The Canadian World Cup seventh place winner was Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford with 222.22 points.

“The mistakes that have happened today were coincidence. We take this as a lesson and go consistently back to training. We have silver now, and it’s 2017. By 2018 it will be gold. This was the next step towards the goal. We only doubled the throwing fax because I crashed badly last week and we didn’t want to take any risks this time,”said Savchenko.

The Japanese Shoma Uno won the title with 301.10 points, while Paul Fentz from Berlin finished in tenth place with 201.60 points after two mediocre speeches. As expected, the ice dance competition was dominated by the Canadian world champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir with a world record of 199.86 points.

The German champions Kavita Lorenz and Joti Polizoakis finished eighth after two flawless but technically not very high quality programs with 146.08 points. In the women’s competition, the Canadian Kaetlyn Osmond won with 212.91 points.
