Handball: Berlin remains at the top – Kiel wins
The Foxes Berlin remain the front-runner of the HBL. The capital club won on Thursday evening at Frisch Auf Göppingen 38:32 (18:13) and defended the lead of the standings ahead of champions Rhein-Neckar Löwen with 19:3 points.
The defending champion, who played less in one game, won 32:29 (15:11) at the SC Magdeburg and came as a direct pursuer on 18:2 points.
For a long time, the record champion THW Kiel had a hard time. The troubled club prevailed 28:21 (13:12) against rising star Eulen Ludwigshafen, but they had big problems in the first half. Only after the break did the former series champion dominate the action and still throw out a safe success.
Even before the game, the THW had reacted to the downward trend in sport and rebuilt its team leadership. The long-time Bundesliga player and former Kiel player Viktor Szilagyi will be retired from the 1. On 1 January 2018, the newly created position of Sports Director at the last stumbling industry giant will be taken over. With 13:9 points Kiel is only ranked seventh.
Victories were also celebrated by HSG Wetzlar with a 26:23 (12:8) against HC Erlangen and GWD Minden at 29:24 (13:12) against VfL Gummersbach.
