Basketball: EuroCup: Bayern Munich marches on – Berlin wins too
Bayern Munich has continued its triumphant success in the EuroCup. Coach Sasa Djordjevic’s team beat Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 83:58 (50:28) and took a big step towards the last sixteen with their fifth win in the fifth game. The best throwers of the hosts were Jared Cunningham and Nihad Dedovic with 15 points each.
Alba Berlin also continues to be strong in the EuroCup. The Munich team’s first goalkeeper in the Bundesliga, who had to forego international Niels Giffey (tape injury to the thumb) for a short time, won at Bilbao Basket 94:86 (52:42). With four wins, coach Aito Garcia Reneses’s team, out of which Peyton Siva emerged with 15 points, now has their sights firmly fixed on the lap of the best 16.
For Bundesliga 14. ratiopharm Ulm, however, is not running smoothly on the European stage. The 66:77 (25:49) defeat at Dolomiti Energia Trento was already the third in the current competition.
“They were on the defensive in the first quarter,”said Bayern coach Djordjevic, praising the Italians at Telekom Sport. After that, the team from Munich scored in front of 5,227 spectators with a 14:3 run in the last five minutes of the first half for the preliminary round against the Italian championship’s last place. In addition to the former German champions, only Darussafaka Istanbul and Kuban Krasnodar have a flawless record after five games.
