Handball: Dagur Sigurdsson etches:”It doesn’t get any more embarrassing than that”.
Former national coach Dagur Sigurdsson has attacked the European Handball Federation (EHF). The reason: The incidents around the EHF cup matches matches between FH Hafnarfjördur and HC St. Petersburg.
“It’s the most embarrassing thing you can do, EHF. Why not three umpires and less…”, Sigurdsson wrote on Twitter and supplemented his message with several tie emojis. The 44-year-old should have meant “less functionaries”.
Previously, the second round of the EHF Cup had been a crazy situation. Hafnarfjördur from Iceland had to travel 2700 kilometers to St. St. Petersburg, just to complete a seven-metre throw. After all: In this showdown, the guests won 4:3 and entered the third round.
The seven-metre throwing had become necessary because the referees obviously did not know the rules of the EHF Cup. They left in October after the second leg in St. Peter’s. Petersburg – at the end of which both teams were equal goals – will play an extension instead of a seven-metre throw. The inferior St. Petersburg appealed and got right.
