DEL: Nuremberg Ice Tigers jump to the top
The Nuremberg Ice Tigers have climbed to the top of the standings in the DEL at least temporarily. At the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven, the Franconians won on 21. After a 5:4 penalty shootout (0:1,3:2,1:1,0:0,1:0,1:0) the third consecutive defeat was prevented.
The Ice Tigers are the front runners with 44 points, Bremerhaven (33) is fifth. Master Red Bull Munich (43) can regain the lead of the standings on Friday in his home game against Schwenninger Wild Wings.
Ross Mauerman (15th), Kevin Lavalee (28th) and Jan Urbas (31st) took the hosts 3-0. Team coach Rob Wilson’s team equalised within 89 seconds with goals from Brandon Segal (34th) and a double pack from John Mitchell (35th/36th) within just 89 seconds.
In the third quarter, Bremerhaven’s Jordan Owens (58th) and Nuremberg’s Oliver Mebus (59th) met before Mitchell secured the Ice Tigers’ victory in the penalty shootout.
