Winter sports: World Bobsleigh Federation cancels suspension of Russian athletes
The bobsleigh and skeleton federation IBSF has lifted the temporary suspensions against nine Russian athletes. As the federation announced on Friday after a meeting at Munich Airport, it is still awaiting a written explanation from the IOC for the Olympic suspension of the athletes concerned and could not justify a further suspension.
The sanction against former bob pilot Alexander Subkow caused a particular stir last week. The two-time gold medallist of Sochi is acting president of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation.
From the skeletonis were Sochi Olympic champion Alexander Tretyakov, Sergei Chudinov (5th) and bronze winner Yelena Nikitina, Olga Potylizina (5th place) and Sochi Olympic champion Alexander Tretyakov. ) and Maria Orlowa (6th) were suspended and now approved by the World Federation for the time being. Their lifelong suspensions of the Olympic Games remain in place.
The World Ski Federation FIS had acted in opposition to the IBSF. In the case of the Sochi Olympic champion Alexander Legkov and five other cross-country skiers suspended for life by the IOC, the FIS had initially refrained from further suspension in order to await the written grounds for the verdict. After the IOC presented the results on Monday, the FIS suspended all six athletes on Thursday.
