Handball:”We win”: Van der Vaart in handball fever
The Dutch soccer star Rafael van der Vaart (34) and his partner Estavana Polman bet on his home country at the World Cup showdown for the group victory between the German women’s handball team and Oranje (18.00 hrs) on Friday.
“I mean, we win. That’s easy,”said the long-time international player to the SID on the fringes of the handball world championship in Leipzig. In this game, it doesn’t matter “whether football or handball is. It’s always special. I’m totally looking forward to it.”
Van der Vaart, together with their daughter Jesslynn, has already watched several matches live in the hall. The former playmaker of Hamburger SV, meanwhile under contract with FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga, has had a relationship with Polman since the beginning of 2016. The 25-year-old backroom player is one of the top performers at the runners-up in the world championship.
“It’s completely different. Usually I played EC and World Cup. Now I see it from the other side. That’s nice, too. But the pressure is still there, of course, because I’m nervous about whether everything is going well,”said van der Vaart:”It would of course be a dream if we could make it to the semi-finals and finals in Hamburg”.
At the game on Friday he can’t be in the hall.”I have to go back. I think we’ll meet again in Hamburg,”said van der Vaart. The final games in the Hanseatic city are, as with the German team, the Dutch women’s goal.
