Speed skating: Ihle with German record on seventh place
Speed skater Nico Ihle had a personal moment of glory at the start of the fourth season’s World Cup in Salt Lake City/Utah, but missed a top result.
The Chemnitzer improved his own German record by two hundredths in 34.35 seconds after his last weak performance of over 500 m in 34.35 seconds. His 15th birthday. However, Ihle missed the World Cup podium by 13 hundredths in a competition dominated by top times.
Ihle, who has already broken the Olympic norm, ended his shape crisis with his success of respect. Since his second place in Heerenveen four weeks ago, the 32-year-old had not reached the top 10 on the individual routes. Ihle had started with a lot of optimism.
“The power is there, I feel fit. The ice is very good for me, I’m going into the races very confidently,”he said.
The victory went to the Canadian Alex Boisvert-Lacroix (34,15), who beat his personal best performance on the fast Olympic track of 2002 by 15 hundredths.
